Applying Process for Ethical Review

Instructions:

Following are to be submitted.

1. Application Form: Part I – 3 copies
2. Application Form: Part II – 3 copies
3. Application Form: Part III – 2 copies
4. Complete research proposal, including justification, objectives, and detailed methodology – 3 copies
5. Information sheet for research participants (must be provided in Sinhala, Tamil, and English) – 3 copies
6. Consent forms (must be provided in Sinhala, Tamil, and English) – 3 copies
7. Data collection booklets/forms/questionnaires (must be provided in Sinhala, Tamil, and English if self-administered by research participants) – 3 copies
8. Brief CV of the Principal Investigator/Supervisor – 3 copies
9. Soft copies of all the above documents must be submitted through the Google Form after receiving your ERC ID from the ERC office.

• All documents, except items 3 and 9, should be bound into three separate folders for distribution to reviewers. Items 3 and 9 should be submitted separately.
• For research protocols requiring a "review with major modifications," all the above documents must be resubmitted with the same number of copies. Additionally, a document outlining all changes from the original submission must be included.
• All documents, except items 3 and 9, along with copies of the list of changes, should be bound into three separate folders for distribution to reviewers. Items 3 and 9 should be submitted separately.
• For research protocols requiring a "review with minor modifications," submit one copy of each document, except item 3, for which two copies are required. A document listing all modifications must also be included.

• All applications and documents must be submitted before 10:00 AM on the first Tuesday of each month to be reviewed within the same month.
• The Institutional Ethical Review Committee convenes on the third Tuesday of each month.
• The ethics review and clearance process takes at least two months for first-time submissions and those requiring major modifications. Submissions with minor modifications may be processed faster.
